Work Hard, Play Hard

Work hard now, enjoy during retirement. That seems to be a popular philosophy floating around. Personally, though, I’m not very fond of it.

I’ve seen far too many people defer having fun, only to end up as grumpy old souls. Somewhere along the way, they just lost the energy—or the having-fun bone! 😄

My philosophy has always been: work hard, play hard… now.

Today, I’m a middle-aged woman who has put in the effort to progress in life. But I've also had my own fair share of fun along the way. Travel, movies, restaurants, experiences… the entire package. ✈️🍿🍽️

How do I feel today? Bored, sometimes, with nothing much to do… but... content. Fulfilled. Peaceful. 🕊️ I believe that’s a pretty good space to be in.

And now, I can dream afresh. I can set new goals for my retirement and actually look forward to living the next chapter differently. There’s no feeling of “I spent my whole life working, and now I need to finally start living.” I’ve been living all along. 💃🏻🖖🏼

To me, this seems like the best bet: 👉🏼 Work hard. Play hard. And every 7–10 years, dream again. Set new goals. Reinvent what life looks like.

Maybe that’s how we keep life feeling fun, fresh, and worth looking forward to. ✨

Love,
N
